Artist Statement

My current practice focuses on interactions between fibers and the body, particularly strange and transformative costumes that I knit, crochet, and otherwise assemble. These works stem out of a complicated relationship with my own body, caused by physical illness and trauma. I consider how fibers can modify the body, sometimes to protect it and sometimes to facilitate performance. I am interested in costumes that obscure the body, or render it outside the norms of bodily existence. Through wearing and performing in these costumes, I hope to portray common challenges that arise from the relationship between self and body.
